Who's to know?
We're here alone, secrecy our language
Who's to realise that we're together
We can touch, kiss, lick, bite
Share these very intimacies.
None to tell us otherwise
To remind us of responsibilities, pasts, presents, futures
For after all, who's to know?
We need tell nobody
Hide within the silence
Confine ourselves to glances exchanged in passing
Tell ourselves that being together
Is natural, sensible while we are together.
While the beating of the blood in our veins
Obscures the voice of reason in our hearts
While the feel of your body against mine
Can overwhelm the logic
The cold hard logic
That tells me that you will leave
That you will run from me
As though the demons of hell themselves pursue you
For after all
Who's to know
That it is the lure of the forbidden
That sends you from one partner
To the next

Who's to know?

("Betrayal" - 30 JUL 2002)

Author's Note: I wrote this while waiting for some system testing to begin. At the time, I was starting to read slashfic, in particular Aragorn/Boromir slashfic in the Lord of the Rings fandom. Occasionally my subconscious notices these things.
